14th October 2008New B30 Series proves invaluable for Palmstead Nurseries
Celebrating its 40th year of trading in September, Palmstead Nurseries has established a formidable reputation for the supply of trees and shrubs to the landscaping and amenity sectors. Servicing a nationwide client base, with a particularly strong presence in the South East and Home counties, Palmstead works over 123 acres on site and grow 85% of their own produce.
Also trading as a wholesale cash and carry, Palmstead cultivates over a million containerised plants with an additional 200,000 grown in the field. The increasing demand for large containers led to the recent build of a two and a half acre Glasshouse where new container stock specimen plants are now housed. Joint Managing Director, Bob Chapman, has seen many changes during his 25 year career at Palmstead Nurseries and this recent growth in operations highlighted a need for a new compact tractor.
Mainly utilised for carry work and general maintenance, there was no doubt in Bob’s mind that the recently launched Kubota B3030 would be the model of choice. Already operating a comprehensive fleet of Kubota machines, including the BX2200 sub compact tractor and versatile STV Series, Bob holds the brand in high esteem. “I can’t praise Kubota enough” commented Bob. “The machines are robust, durable, reliable and safe. They’re also easy to maintain, with parts readily available, which is essential as we service the machines ourselves”
At 30hp and featuring HST transmission, Bi speed turn, power steering and 4WD as standard, the B3030 has truly complimented Palmstead’s existing fleet. Living up to its reputation for versatility, the B3030 has proved an invaluable tool for Bob and his team and it has surpassed the capabilities of the fork lift for lifting trees and shrubs. It’s compact nature, high power to weight ratio and nimble agility enable the B3030 to navigate efficiently in the aisles whilst keeping soil disturbance to a minimum.
When asked why he considers Kubota to be the best manufacturer brand for him, Bob explained. “I’ve used Italian tractors in the past, and Kubota machines out shine them. In particular, I’m very impressed with Kubota’s inboard sealed brakes - they don’t get clogged up with dirt which is vital for the environment we work in.” “The service I receive from both Kubota UK and my local dealership, Drake and Fletcher, is excellent. Like my own business, Kubota and the dealer are focused on what the customer wants and needs, and do whatever it takes to get what is required. They always go that extra mile.” Concluded Bob
To mark its 40th birthday in September, Palmstead will be hosting a large three day event for the amenity sector. Be sure to look out for further details coming soon!
